## UPSC NDA & NA Exam Pattern 2020

Union Public Service Commission held a recruitment examination named as NDA & NA two times in a year. This exam is for admission into the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force wings. Here you could test the entire UPSC NDA & NA Exam Pattern 2020.

The examination will held in two stages.

Stage I – Written Examination

Stage II – Interview

## Stage I – Written Examination

There may be 2 papers in NDA (National defense academy) and National Academy (NA) written exam. The papers in all the topics will consist of objective kind questions only. The query papers of Mathematics & Part B of the General Ability Test can be set bilingually in Hindi in addition to English. The Time duration for each paper is 2 ½ Hours. i. In the question papers, wherever necessary, questions involving the system machine of Weights and Measures most effective could be set.

ii. The Commission have the discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the topics at the examination.

iii. The candidates are not permitted to apply a calculator or mathematical or logarithmic desk for answering objective type papers.

## Stage – II. Interview

Applicants who select within the written examination are involved Interview which is conducted by SSB. For Army, Navy Wings & 10 +2 Entry Scheme candidates got to undergo IQ test & test , except for Air Force Wing the candidates must attend a Pilot Aptitude Test. The Interview Consists of both Intelligence & test .

## Intelligence and Personality Test

The SSB procedure consists of two-stage Selection process-stage I and stage II. Only those applicants who clear the stage I are permitted to seem for stage II. the small print are :

a. Stage I comprises of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests are Picture Perception Description Test (PP&DT). The candidates are going to be shortlisted supported the mixture of performance within the QIR Test and PP and DT.

b. Stage II Comprises of Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests and therefore the Conference. These tests are conducted over 4 days.

The personality of a candidate is assessed by three different assessors viz. the Interviewing Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO)and the Psychologist. There are not any separate weightage for every test. The marks are allotted by assessors only after taking into consideration the performance of the candidate holistically altogether the tests. additionally, marks for conferences also are allotted supported the initial performance of the applicants within the three techniques and decisions of the Board. of these have equal weightage.

N.B: Air force has given pilot aptitude test just one occasion for the applicants. The test selected applicants will attend every subsequent Interview.

### PAPER-I: MATHEMATICS (Maximum Marks- 300)

1. ALGEBRA: Concept of set, operations on sets, Venn diagrams. De Morgan laws. intersection , relation, equivalence relation. Representation of real numbers on a line. Maple numbers – basic properties, modulus, argument, cube roots of unity. binary numeration system of numbers. Conversion of variety in decimal numeration system to binary numeration system and vice-versa. Arithmetic, Geometric and Harmonic progressions. Quadratic equations with real coefficients. the answer of linear inequations of two variables by graphs. Permutation and Combination. theorem and its applications. Logarithms and their Applications.

2. MATRICES AND DETERMINANTS: sorts of matrices, operations on matrices. The determinant of a matrix, basic properties of determinants. Adjoint and inverse of a matrix, Applications – Solution of a system of linear equations in two or three unknowns by Cramer’s rule and by Matrix Method.

3. TRIGONOMETRY: Angles and their measures in degrees and in radians. Trigonometrically ratios. Trigonometric identities Sum and difference formulae. Multiple and Sub-multiple angles. Inverse trigonometric functions. Applications – Height and distance, properties of triangles.

4. analytic geometry OF TWO AND THREE DIMENSIONS:: Rectangular coordinate system. Distance formula. Equation of a line in various forms. The angle between the 2 lines. the space to some extent from a line. Equation of a circle in standard and general form. Standard sorts of parabola, ellipse, and hyperbola. Eccentricity and axis of a conic. the purpose during a three-dimensional space, the space between two points. Direction Cosines and direction ratios. Equation of a plane and a line in various forms. The angle between two lines and therefore the angle between two planes. Equation of a sphere.

5. DIFFERENTIAL CALCULUS: Concept of a real-valued function – domain, range, and graph of a function. Composite functions, one to at least one, onto and inverse functions. Evaluation of definite integrals – determination of areas of plane regions bounded by curves – applications. Definition of order and degree of an equation, the formation of an equation by examples. General and particular solution of differential equations, solution of the first order and first-degree differential equations of varied types – examples. Application in problems of growth and decay.

7. VECTOR ALGEBRA: Vectors in two and three dimensions, magnitude and direction of a vector. Unit and null vectors, the addition of vectors, scalar multiplication of a vector, inner product or scalar product of two vectors. vector product or cross product of two vectors. Applications-work did by a force and moment of a force and in geometrical problems.

8. STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY: Statistics: Classification of knowledge , distribution , And cumulative distribution – examples. Graphical representation – Histogram, Pie Chart, frequency polygon – examples. Measures of Central tendency – Mean, median and mode. Variance and variance – determination and comparison. Correlation and regression. Probability: Random experiment, outcomes and associated sample space, events, mutually exclusive and exhaustive events, impossible and certain events. Union and Intersection of events. Complementary, elementary and composite events. Definition of probability – classical and statistical – examples. Elementary theorems on probability – simple problems. contingent probability , Bayes’ theorem – simple problems. variate as function on a sample space. Bernoulli distribution , samples of random experiments giving rise to Binominal distribution.

## PAPER-II: GENERAL ABILITY TEST (Maximum Marks-600)

The question paper in English is going to be designed to check the applicant’s understanding of English and workmanlike use of words. The syllabus covers various aspects like Grammar and usage, vocabulary, comprehension, and cohesion in extended text to check the candidate’s proficiency in English.

### Part ‘B’ – GENERAL KNOWLEDGE (Maximum Marks-400)

The question paper on public knowledge will broadly cover the subjects: Physics, Chemistry, General Science, Social Studies, Geography, and Current Events. The syllabus given below is meant to point the scope of those subjects included during this paper. The topics mentioned aren’t to be considered exhaustive and questions on topics of comparable nature not specifically mentioned within the syllabus can also be asked. Candidate’s answers are expected to point out their knowledge and intelligent understanding of the topic.

Section ‘A’ (Physics): Physical Properties and States of Matter, Weight and relative density, Volume, Density, Mass, Pressure Barometer, Principle of Archimedes. The motion of objects, Newton’s Laws of Motion, Measurement of temperature and warmth, Velocity and Acceleration, Force and Momentum, Parallelogram of Forces, Gravitation, elementary ideas of labor, Power and EnergyStability and Equilibrium of bodies, Effects of warmth, change of State and heat of transformation, Modes of transference of warmth. Sound waves and their properties, Reflection, and refraction, Simple musical instruments. Rectilinear propagation of sunshine. Spherical mirrors and Lenses. Human Eye.Properties of a Magnet, Earth as a Magnet, Natural and Artificial Magnets. conductors and Non-conductors, Primary and Secondary Cells, Ohm’s Law, Simple Electrical Circuits, Heating, Lighting and Magnetic effects of Current, Static and dynamic electricity, Measurement of electric power, Use of X-Rays. Section ‘B’ (Chemistry): Physical and Chemical changes, Mixtures and Compounds, Symbols, Elements, Law of Chemical Combination (excluding problems). Properties of Air and Water, Formulae and simple Chemical Equations . Preparation and Properties of Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen and Carbon dioxide, Oxidation and Reduction. Acids, bases and salts. Carbon – different forms. Fertilizers – Natural and Artificial Material used in the preparation of substances like Ink, Paper, Cement, Paints, Safety Matches, Soap, Glass, and Gun-Powder. Elementary ideas about the Structure of Atomic, Equivalent, Atom, and Molecular Weights, Valency.

Section ‘C’ (General Science): Difference between the non- living and living. Basis of Life – Cells, Tissues, and Protoplasms. Growth and Reproduction in Animals and Plants. Elementary knowledge of the Human Body and its important organs. Common Epidemics, their causes, and prevention. Food – Balanced Diet, Source of Energy for man, Constituents of food. The Solar System – Achievements of Eminent Scientists, Meteors, and Comets, Eclipses.

Section ‘D’ (History, Freedom Movement, etc.): A broad survey of Indian History, with emphasis on Civilizations and Culture. Freedom Movement in India, Administration, Elementary study of Indian Constitution, and Elementary knowledge of Five Year Plans of India. Panchayati Raj, Co-operatives and Community Development. Basic Teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Forces shaping the modern world, Bhoodan, Sarvodaya, National Integration and Welfare State, Renaissance, Exploration, and Discovery, War of American Independence. Industrial Revolution, the French Revolution, and the Russian Revolution. Impact of Science and Technology on Society, Panchsheel, Democracy, Concept of one World, United Nations. Communism and Socialism and the Role of India in the present world.

Section ‘E’ (Geography): The Earth, and its shape and size, Concept of time, Latitudes and Longitudes, Movements of Earth and their effects, International Date Line, Rocks, and their classification, Weathering – Mechanical and Chemical, Origin of Earth, Earthquakes, and volcanoes. Ocean Currents and Tides Atmosphere and its composition Temperature and Atmospheric Pressure, Planetary Winds, Humidity, cyclones, and Anti-cyclones, Condensation, and Precipitation; Types of Climate. Major Natural regions of the World, Regional Geography of India – Climate, Natural vegetation, Mineral and Power resources; location and distribution of agricultural and industrial activities, land, and air routes of India, Important Sea ports and main sea. Main items of Exports in India and Imports in India.

Section ‘F’ (Current Events): Knowledge of Important all the events that have happened in India in recent years. Prominent personalities – Both Indian and International including those connected with sports and cultural activities, Current important world events.

NOTE: Out of maximum marks assigned to part ‘B’ of this Question paper, questions on all the Sections ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, ‘E’ and ‘F’ will carry marks approximately 25%, 15%, 10%, 20%, 20%, and 10% weight ages respectively.
